McGill Biodiversity Tour - Downtown Campus
Homecoming: McGill Biodiversity Tour - Downtown Campus

Saturday, October 21, 2023
10 AM to 11 AM EDT

Originally developed for the delegates at COP15, this one-hour guided tour explores the biodiversity of plants and animals on the downtown McGill campus.

We start at the Roddick Gates and acknowledge the land together before paying homage to the one tonne carbon tree, a red Oak planted by the first class of graduating veterans in 1949. After this we stroll through the Medicinal and Herbal pollinator patch to sip lemon balm tisane and learn how pollinator species and native plants are critical to maintaining urban biodiversity. The tour circles through James Square to taste from the ecological quilt of nut and berry trees like Barberry, Kentucky coffee and Apple. We finish at the birch grove near the Roddick Gates that was planted as a buffer zone between downtown and the McGill grounds.
