ONLINE: Up in smoke: Understanding the health hazards of wildfire pollution

Tuesday, July 11, 2023
12 PM to 1 PM EDT

As devastating wildfires continue to ravage landscapes across Canada, the fallout extends far beyond charred forests and scorched earth. The pervasive smoke and pollutants that have clouded summer skies across a large swath of North America also pose a significant risk to public health.

Join us for this special Made by McGill alumni webcast when we sit down with two environmental scientists to understand why forest fires have become more frequent and intense, and share practical tips on what you can do to protect yourself from the hazardous pollutants they emit.

With:

Jill Baumgartner, Associate Professor and William Dawson Scholar, McGill Institute for Health and Social Policy and Department of Epidemiology, Biostatistics and Occupational Health; Associate Member, Bieler School of Environment

Benoît Côté, Associate Professor, Department of Natural Resource Sciences, and Director of the Morgan Arboretum and Molson Nature Reserve;  Member, Centre d'étude de la forêt; Associate Member, Bieler School of Environment

Moderated by Derek Cassoff, Managing Director, Communications, McGill University Advancement
