Do you get nervous before giving a speech? Want to feel more confident while presenting? McGill Young Alumni (MYA) is excited to present an event designed to equip students and alumni professionals with the foundational strategies to sharpen their public speaking skills and boost their confidence.

Join experts Georgina Black, Managing Partner at Deloitte Canada, and Jay OlsonMSc'15, PhD'20 a Postdoctoral Fellow researching psychology and medicine at Harvard University, to learn the art of communicating effectively. They will share their insights on the importance of presenters engaging and persuading their audiences, in both academic and business settings.

Whether you are a looking to stand out for future presentations, preparing to promote yourself on the job market, or looking to fine-tune your communication skills, this session will give you a head start to achieve your goals. The event will also include a rapid-fire Q&A session; don't miss your chance to ask our speakers questions!


ABOUT THE SPEAKERS:

Georgina Black, Canadian Managing Partner, Government & Public Services - Deloitte Canada, is Deloitte's Canadian Managing Partner for the Government, Public Services & Healthcare practice and serves on the global industry executive. Recognized as one of Canada's Top 100 Most Powerful Women, Georgina is a frequent speaker and panelist on the future of government and the future of healthcare.  She has contributed to a number of thought leadership papers including Deloitte's 2030 Catalyst Report: A Vision for a Thriving Canada in 2030 and Making Canada the Best Place to Age by 2030.

Jay Olson, MSc'15, PhD'20, is a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Psychology at Harvard University. He studies the power of suggestion and effective persuasion. In 2018, he won First Place in North America at the Council of Graduate Schools 3-Minute Thesis (3MT) public speaking competition. Jay helps companies, organizations, and students apply the science of public speaking to become more persuasive, engaging, and confident speakers.
