Speaking Up: An exploration of Developmental Language Disorder, a hidden disorder with a big impact

Did you know? Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) is 20 times more prevalent than autism but far less well known. It is a hidden disorder, often missed or misdiagnosed as a related disorder such as learning disability or reading disorder. Its impacts are significant and long lasting, affecting social communication, academic success and advanced language skills. DLD is associated with higher drop-out rates and even with increased risk of incarceration.

McGill's School of Communication Sciences and Disorders is proud to be hosting a virtual roundtable bringing together three of the world's leading researchers on this topic.

Join us for this opportunity to learn how we as a society can better support children and teens with this disorder.

Panelists:
Dr. Elin Thordardottir, Professor at McGill University's School of Communication Sciences and Disorders
Dr. James Law, Professor of Speech and Language Science at Newcastle University
Dr. Sue Roulstone, Professor Emeritus at the University of the West of England, Bristo

Also featuring moderator Dr. Martha Crago, Vice-Principal of Research and Innovation, McGill University, Professor, School of Communication Sciences and Disorders.
