London: The Future of Empathy in the Age of Rage

Wednesday, November 27, 2019
6 PM to 8 PM GMT

Join McGill's Dean of Arts, Antonia Maioni, for a timely presentation by renowned McGill Law Professor Payam Akhavan about today's pervasive hateful populism which threatens our human rights ideals and democratic institutions. The presentation will explore what is required to change course.

Professor Akhavan teaches and researches public international law, international dispute settlement, international criminal law, human rights and cultural pluralism. Prior to joining McGill, he was a United Nations prosecutor at The Hague working on the frontlines of some of the worst human rights struggles in Bosnia and Rwanda and more recently, the Yazidi and Rohingya genocides.

Following his presentation, Akhavan will be joined by special guest, Lyse Doucet, accomplished Canadian journalist and BBC's Chief International Correspondent and Senior Presenter, for a discussion as well as a question and answer session moderated by Dean Maioni.

Made by resilience and engagement. Made by McGill.
