Brain disorders impact one in four people worldwide and affect millions of Canadians each year. But researchers at McGill University, with access to big data sets and powerful computing tools, are making tremendous inroads into understanding mental illness and neurological disorders, and developing better diagnoses and treatments.
Alumni, friends and students are invited to join Suzanne Fortier, Principal and Vice-Chancellor of McGill University, and David Eidelman, Vice-Principal (Health Affairs) and Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, as they celebrate the Irving Ludmer Family Foundation's $10-million gift to the Ludmer Centre for Neuroinformatics & Mental Health with a public symposium highlighting the power of this work.
Five leading Ludmer Centre researchers will take five minutes each to share how their projects are shaping our understanding of our brains, and what important discoveries their work might yield. This will be followed by a short panel discussion delving deeper into the impact on mental health, and the implications for our society.
Featuring:
Alan Evans, James McGill Professor in Neurology and Neurosurgery at McGill and Co-director of the Ludmer Centre at the Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital (The Neuro)
Celia Greenwood, Professor in the Gerald Bronfman Department of Oncology, jointly appointed to Epidemiology, Biostatistics & Occupational Health at McGill and Co-director of the Ludmer Centre at the Jewish General Hospital's Lady Davis Institute for Medical Research
Kieran O'Donnell, Assistant Professor in Epigenetics and Epidemiology in Psychiatry at McGill, Azrieli Global Scholar in Child & Brain Development, and researcher at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute Research Centre
Rosemary Bagot, PhD'11, William Dawson Scholar and Assistant Professor of Psychology at McGill
Sherif Karama, MD-PhD'08, Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychiatry at McGill and researcher at the Douglas Mental Health University Institute Research Centre
