Dinner and Lecture with Professor Antonia Maioni in Kingston (Kingston alumni branch)

Thursday, June 18, 2009
6 PM to 9 PM

The McGill Alumni Association of Kingston invites you to a dinner and lecture with:

Dr. Antonia Maioni, Associate Professor, William Dawson Scholar, and Director, McGill Institute for the Study of Canada.

In the past decade, the importance of health care has been reflected in the tremendous number of commissions, consultations and reports generated to address problems in the system. The federal government has released at least four major health care reports, and practically every province has produced one as well.

Funding agreements between the federal and provincial governments have seen major changes, while two landmark court decisions, driven by litigations based on activism, have foreshadowed significant organizational shifts. But what has actually changed in the health care system?

And, more importantly, where are we headed in the future? Dr. Antonia Maioni will address these and related concerns during a lecture to Kingston alumni.

DR. ANTONIA MAIONI is a multilingual Montrealer who studied at Université Laval, completed her master’s degree at Carleton University’s Norman Paterson School of International Affairs, and earned a PhD at Northwestern University. On Canada Day in 2001, she was named director of the McGill Institute for the Study of Canada. A frequent and thoughtful media commentator on Canadian political issues, Dr. Maioni is the author of Parting at the Crossroads: The Emergence of Health Insurance in the United States and Canada.
