The McGill Alumni Association of Vancouver invites alumni, family and friends to "An Apple a Day"; a lecture and reception with Dr. Joe Schwarcz.Dr. Schwarcz is known across Canada for his ability to demonstrate how science impacts our daily lives. In this thought-provoking presentation, he draws on his vast knowledge of food chemistry to demystify some of today’s top nutritional fears, trends and questions. Our manipulation of the food supply, the confusion about contaminants, and even the scientific efficacy of diets - he breaks down the latest headlines and serves up a fresh take on everything from plastics to pesticides. Please join us for a lively and enlightening discussion about what we eat.\
Joe Schwarcz is director of McGill University’s Office for Science and Society. He teaches courses on health issues and the applications of chemistry to everyday life. His informative and entertaining public lectures range from food controversies to the chemistry of love. "Dr. Joe," as he is known to his many fans, has received numerous awards, including the Royal Society of Canada’s McNeil Award, and is the only non-American to win the American Chemical Society’s prestigious Grady-Stack Award. In addition to being a well-known radio and TV personality, he is the author of half a dozen international bestsellers, including "The Fly in the Ointment", "Let Them Eat Flax", and "An Apple a Day". His latest book, "Brain Fuel" was published in September by Doubleday Canada.
