Music Recital at Hong Kong's Largest Private Museum

Saturday, July 30, 2016
6 PM to 8:30 PM

McGill University has been providing music education since 1884 and its Schulich School of Music is amongst the oldest in the English-speaking world. To celebrate its legacy with the Hong Kong community, we invite you to a special classical music recital, featuring some of McGill's most talented graduate-level music students, to be held at this city's largest and most dazzling private museum, Liang Yi Museum.

The McGillian-owned museum is home to one of the world's largest and best-curated collections of Chinese antique furniture from the Ming and Qing dynasties. It also houses the world's premier collection of haute vanities from the late 1880's through the 1960's from prominent design houses such as Cartier, Van Cleef & Arpels, and Boucheron. In addition, guests attending this recital will have the opportunity to view a stunning selection of silverware pieces on loan from London's Albert and Victoria Museum.

The recital's performers include scholarship winners and advanced level musicians at McGill University's Master's of Performance program as well as their musician friends from prestigious music schools in Hong Kong and the USA. Three of our performers, Kenneth Kwan from McGill, Vince Chua from the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts, and Vanessa Wong from Yale, have been scholarship beneficiaries of Sir Kenneth Fung Ping Fan Foundation Trust I, a valued supporter of McGill's music programs.

Selections to be featured in this recital include violin and piano pieces by the famed Russian composer Dimitri Shostakovich, Romance in F minor Op.11 by 19th century Czech composer Antonin Dvorak, Sonata for Two Violins in E minor op.3 No.5 by Baroque composer Jean-Marie Leclair, Histoire du Tango by 20th century Argentinian composer Astor Piazzolla, and Violin Sonata no. 2 in D major by another Russian composer Sergei Prokofiev.
