The McGill Women's Alumnae Association (MWAA) invites you to a special lecture honoring International Women's Week 2015.

It is now widely recognized that empowerment of women is central to building peaceful, prosperous societies. Yet, across the globe, women's human rights are increasingly coming under challenge.

Join author and Professor, Dr. Vrinda Narain for an enlightening discussion to better understand how women can use universal norms of human rights in particular local contexts to move towards equality, and to foster an understanding of global citizenship built on powerful, meaningful community engagement.

ABOUT OUR SPEAKER:
Dr. Vrinda Narain is an Assistant Professor at McGill University where she holds a joint appointment in the Faculty of Law and the Institute for Gender, Sexuality and Feminist Studies in the Faculty of Arts. She is also a Research Associate at the Institute for Race, Reconciliation and Social Justice at the University of the Free State, South Africa. Her research and teaching focus on constitutional law, social diversity and feminist legal theory.

She is the author of two books:
Reclaiming the Nation: Muslim Women and the Law in India (University of Toronto Press, 2008)
Gender and Community: Muslim Women's Rights in India (University of Toronto Press, 2001)
