You'll meet McGill graduates who are leaders in their fields and ready to share secrets of their success. This is your opportunity to get up close and personal with top industry professionals.

The Power Lunches series is a new offering that features spotlight interviews with successful alumni discussing their careers, important issues from their industry, work and office culture, and the impact of their McGill experience. Space is limited to 30 guests.

Mitchell Scherzer will be interviewed by Brett A. Hickey, BCom'02, Founder & CEO, Star Mountain. Their short talk will be followed by questions from the audience.

Mitchell ("Mitch") Scherzer is a senior vice president and chief financial officer of Hearst Corporation. He is also a member of the Hearst Board of Directors. Mitch is a former investment banker who has concentrated most of his 20-plus-year banking career in the communications, media and entertainment industries.

Mitch began his career at Goldman Sachs in 1989, ultimately serving as co-head of its media group. While at Goldman Sachs, he gained experience on a range of corporate finance and M&A transactions across a variety of sectors in the media and communications industries.

Mitch joined JP Morgan as a managing director in 2002. He went on to head U.S. Media Investment Banking, where he led JP Morgan's investment banking initiatives in the media industry where he was a strategic advisor to leaders in the publishing, broadcasting, cable television, satellite, financial information and telecommunications industries.

Mitch completed his undergraduate studies at McGill University and obtained an MBA from The Wharton School. He serves on the Board of the Madison Square Boys & Girls Club. He also serves on the McGill University Faculty of Management Global Strategy and Leadership Panel.


Brett Hickey is founder and CEO of Star Mountain Capital, LLC, a specialized small- and medium-sized business private equity and alternative asset management firm focused on direct investments into private companies and strategic investments into other fund managers to help them grow. Star Mountain's investment focus includes backing fund managers who receive low-cost, fixed-rate leverage from the U.S. Government Small Business Administration with the ultimate objective of generating diversified, high yield-producing attractive risk-adjusted return products for institutional and high-net-worth qualified investment clients.

Brett is actively involved in the community and philanthropy. He is a member and former Board member of the Young Presidents' Organization, and has won four prestigious philanthropic awards for his community service, including Branch President of the Year from McGill University.
