The Muriel V. Roscoe Lecture: A World at War with Women. (McGill Women's Alumnae Association (MWAA))

Wednesday, March 13, 2013
6 PM to 8 PM

Join us as for a special lecture honoring International Women's week, 2013.

It has become fashionable in recent years to classify violence against women through its various manifestations: "rape as a tool of war", "honour killings", and "domestic violence", to name but a few. These labels provide important tools for understanding and remedying what has been called a global scourge. But do all these labels hide a more profound and disturbing reality?

Using examples ranging from Canada to Kenya, Pearl Eliadis will explore the role that tacit community support and silence play in perpetrating atrocities against infant girls, girl children, and women around the world. She will also outline the role that we all can play in helping to stop it.

Light refreshments will be served.
