Study Groups and Lectures: Birthdays, Blessings and Brides I

Wednesday, January 16, 2013
11:45 AM to 1:45 PM

In 2013 the opera world, including our study group, will celebrate the two hundredth anniversary of the births of Giuseppe Verdi and Richard Wagner. We will remember Verdi by one of his operas- MACBETH, with Simon Keenlyside, from the Royal Opera House. Wagner by his humane and humorous masterpiece DIE MEISTERSINGER VON NURNBERG, from the Glyndebourne Festival with Gerald Finley as Walther and David McVicar directing. Three other operas, Mozart's COSI FAN TUTTE also from the Glyndebourne Festival, Puccini's TOSCA, with Angela Gheorghiu, Jonas Kaufmann and Brynn Terfel from the Royal Opera House and Richard Strauss's ELECTRA performed at the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden, will also be played.

Discussions, questions, maybe even presentations about the operas, the music, the singers, the staging and production are encouraged and expected. NOTE: Starting date: January 23.
