This study group will explore the Irish experience in Dublin, Belfast and Montreal after the partition of the island in 1921 into Northern Ireland and the Irish Free State ("Ireland" since 1937). We'll examine how, since Partition, the Irish people have lived divided politically, and their evolving relationship. We'll also look at Irish immigration to Quebec and how it has influenced the uniqueness of this province. Topics for discussion might include: the "Troubles," the Good Friday Agreement, Belfast political murals, Ireland in World War II, the feminist movement, the Celtic Tiger, Irish immigration to Quebec, Grosse Isle, Irish culture and organizations in Quebec.

Participants are expected to make a 20- to 25-minute presentation on one of the suggested (or related) topics. The list of topics will be available at the office and on line by the end of December. The moderators will provide support, suggestions and references.
