Study Groups and Lectures: Arts and Life in Russia

We will explore the arts and life in Russia from the time of Peter the Great to the Russian Revolution. First, we will discuss the economy: the lives of the people in the cities and country and their education; then the artists and their art: architecture; Russian painting and the paintings in the Hermitage; writers, playwrights and poets such as Dostoevsky, Tolstoy, Turgenev, Pushkin and Chekov; music, opera, ballet-Glinka, Borodin, Mussorgsky, Tchaikovsky, Petipa.

In this high-participation group everyone is expected to make a presentation and actively join in the discussion.

To register by mail or in person: Pay for your membership ($100) and any lectures ($7 each) with a single cheque payable to McGill University. Cash is not accepted. To register online: You have the option to use Internet banking. You can set up McGill University as a payee with your bank. You may also register for a lecture at the door (the fee is $10) on the day of the lecture. We recommend that you contact the office beforehand to check if space is available.
