Global Food Security: McGill Conference on Global Food Security: Food Security Beyond 2015

Wednesday, October 29, 2014
8 AM to 8 PM

The 7th McGill Conference on Global Food Security will be held on Tuesday, October 28th and Wednesday, October 29th, 2014. The theme of this year's Conference is Food Security Beyond 2015.

The Conference brings together different players from the agricultural sector, from producers to policy makers, and includes a breadth of subjects critical to food security, with speakers and participants from more than 20 developing and developed countries. Through plenary sessions and cross-sectoral dialogue, the annual Conference will explore strategies and solutions against food insecurity and global hunger.

Since its inception in 2008, the annual McGill Conference on Global Food Security has uncovered critical issues affecting the world's poorest and undernourished populations. The themes from the previous six Conferences: The World Food Crisis: Framing a McGill Response (2008); Impacts of Global Financial Turmoil on Food Security (2009); Food Security, Water Scarcity, and Nutrition (2010); Risk and Threats to Food Security (2011); Food Prices and Political Instability (2012) and Strategies against Food Insecurity and Hunger (2013) serve as the cornerstones for this year's theme. By integrating outcomes from the previous Conferences, it is apparent that food security strategies need to better incorporate the overlap between i) sustainable food production, ii) income generation, iii) nutrition, and iv) institutional stability to improve the nutritional status of the world's poorest people.
