McGill University's esteemed jazz program has produced some of Canada's leading jazz musicians, many of whom have made Vancouver their home. In celebration of this rich tradition, the University Women's Club is partnering with the McGill Alumni Association of Vancouver to feature graduates of McGill's highly-respected Schulich School of Music.

In the spirit of the great 1960s jazz talk show television program of the same name, the Jazz Casual concert series weaves together swinging live jazz music with discussion of the art and history of the genre, hosted by jazz musician and Globe and Mail journalist Erin Millar.

Three of the musicians who will play for you are McGillians, and all of these musicians have been featured in prestigious settings ranging from Juno-nominated albums to CBC Radio recordings to jazz festivals across the country.

Featured is saxophonist and composer Ben Henriques, BMus'05 and MMus'12 in jazz performance. Henriques' album The Responsibility Club was selected as the No. 2 recording of 2009 by Radio Jazz Plus, and he is about to release his new record, Captain Awesome. He will be joined by guitarist Tristan Paxton, bassist Ben Dwyer BMus'15, and drummer Jesse Cahill, BMus'99.

And as an added bonus, guests will be treated to a private tour of lovely Hycroft, the heritage Edwardian clubhouse built in 1909, and home of the University Women's Club of Vancouver.
