| McGill Business Conference on Sustainability |
The MBCS was founded with the dual mission to both increase McGill Management’s visibility with Canadian universities and garner a sense of corporate social responsibility among future leaders. This conference organized by McGill BCom students was the first of its kind.
Over the three days and four nights of the MBCS, delegates will see two keynote addresses, participate in three workshop sessions and work together to create solutions for local NGOs in a case-based exercise. The capacity for this conference is 80 participants, which will include approximately 60 external delegates and a 20-person delegation from McGill. The MBCS expects a diversified representation of students from the top business programs in Canada.
The MBCS is excited about the scheduled speakers. The conference’s opening ceremony will feature a dual address by Dave Pollard (who describes himself as, “…a 52 year old idealist and writer who recently abandoned my well-paying job as Chief Knowledge Officer of a Big 4 accountancy because I couldn't live any longer being part of our society's problem instead of part of the solution.”; on the left) and Peter Brown (the founding director of the McGill School of the Environment; on the right). Other notable speakers include representatives from GE Environment, Mountain Equipment Co-Op, Norbord Sustainable Forestry, Santropol Roulant, Eco-Cite and Dix Milles Villages. The MBCS will also be featuring prominent faculty from McGill’s Social Context of Business concentration.
The MBCS is excited to offer the opportunity to McGill alumni to participate in this cornerstone event. There are two distinct ways that alumni and their respective firms can get involved with the conference. Firstly, ample corporate sponsorship opportunities are still available. In partnering with the MBCS, your firm has the opportunity to network with some of Canada’s brightest business students, and of course enjoy an association with the values of sustainability – a growing concern to university students and graduates.
Secondly, the MBCS is proud to introduce a new initiative that welcomes McGill Management alumni to attend any MBCS event, at cost. This provides a terrific opportunity to support the Management Undergraduate Society (MUS)’s new events, as well as hear some of the latest thoughts and research on sustainable business practices.
If you are interested in either of these two options, or would like more information about the conference, please email the MBCS committee at mbcs.canada@gmail.com.
